How to Use Shopify MCP Server with Bifrost

Connect AI assistants to Shopify storefront capabilities and commerce workflows through Storefront MCP.

[ MCP SERVER SUMMARY ]

Shopify MCP server summary

Shopify Storefront MCP lets AI shopping agents access catalog, cart, and policy data for a merchant store, with additional customer-account servers for orders and returns. Bifrost fronts the store MCP URL so commerce tools are policy-controlled for your agent apps.

Connect Shopify to Bifrost in three steps

1

Install Bifrost

Start the gateway locally or deploy in your VPC.

2

Add Shopify in MCP Gateway

Open MCP Gateway in the Bifrost dashboard, click New MCP Server, and choose HTTP. Or register via the API below.

• Replace your-store with the shop subdomain.

• See Shopify docs for storefront vs customer-account MCP server URLs and auth requirements.

3

Point clients at Bifrost /mcp

Configure Claude Desktop, Cursor, or Claude Code to use your Bifrost endpoint with a virtual key instead of connecting directly to Shopify.

[ FAQ ]

Common questions

What does the Shopify MCP server do?

Shopify exposes catalog and cart tools, store policies, customer account order tools to MCP-compatible AI clients. Bifrost connects to it as an upstream MCP client and exposes approved tools through one governed /mcp endpoint.

How does Shopify authenticate when used with Bifrost?

Shopify uses Storefront / customer account auth as documented. Store credentials in Bifrost's environment or credential configuration so they stay at the gateway instead of being copied into every AI client.

Can Claude Desktop, Cursor, or Claude Code use Shopify through Bifrost?

Yes. After registering Shopify in Bifrost, point any HTTP MCP-compatible client at the Bifrost /mcp endpoint and authenticate with a virtual key. The client sees only the tools allowed for that key.

[ MCP GATEWAY ]

One gateway for Shopify and every other MCP server
